All of my pets and breeders are microchipped. This is a process where a very small electric microchip is surgically implanted in the bird to help guard against theft. This is a relatively painless procedure. The actual microchip which is implanted into the bird is about the size of a single grain of rice and transmits a licensed and registered number when a scanner is placed over the bird. The number is ONLY registered to the CURRENT owner of the bird. The microchip is a very advanced piece of technology. While it transmits its registered information, it does so with NO battery! Therefore, the micro- chip will last forever or until the death of your beloved pet! If someone stole your bird and ever took it to a vet or if the police ever suspect that the bird in question is stolen, they run a small hand held scanner over the body of the bird. That number is then called into a main database with the proper and current owners name, address, phone number and any other per- tinent information. I highly recommend that when you purchase a new parrot that you have it microchipped. This only costs about $25. If you ever sell your pet or a baby and it is microchipped, it is important for you to sign the release on the back of the microchip record and give it to the new owner and remind them to keep it in a very safe place like a safe or a bank vault.
