Proper Medium For Nepenthes and
Other Carnivorous Plants
The medium, or soil used for carnivorous plants is very vital
to the health and success of your plants. The medium that I
use is easily obtainable from most large wharehouses such as
Wal-Mart, Sam Club, K-Mart, Home Depot, Target and many
nurseries. Here is the recipe that I use for all of my
plants:

1 part fine peat moss (looks like saw dust)
	1 part perlite
	1 part pine bark
3 parts long fiber sphagnum moss (soaked for 1 hour)

Mix all these together in a large container with rain water or
or distilled water. I never use tap water. There is a great
debate on this. I personally have found that if tap water is
used, the plants do suffer ill effects from the chemicals,
salts and minerals in it. However, it can be used once in a
while in an emergency without any ill effects.

Once the medium is thoroughly mixed, place enough of it in a
planter to fill it one half to 2/3 full. Place your plant in
the container so the roots ends are touching the medium and
gently fill in around the roots with the rest of the medium.
