Nepenthes northiana

Pure or Hybrid: Pure Type: Lowland - Grows below 3000 feet above sea level. They experience hot days, warm nights and continuous high humidity! Origin: Bau, Sarawak Adult Pitcher: Near 14" tall. Lighting: Needs bright light, but not direct sun light. If kept in a greenhouse, it requires 50% shade cloth. Watering: Water from above and allow the excess to completely drain. Water daily in this method. Does not like to be kept in standing water! Comments: This plant is probably the most known due to the painting from Marianne North. It is very large, bronzy- green in color and heavily splotched with red. The mouth is large and slanted and the peristome is very flared and red in color with purplish stripes. This species prefers a medium which is more alkaline. A good medium is two parts course vermiculite to one part each of perlite, pumice and sand. Absolutely avoid peat moss and sphagnum which stunts it growth. Where I got it: Malesiana Tropicals
