Nepenthes merrilliana
|
Pure or Hybrid: Pure
Type: Lowland - Grows below 3000 feet above
sea level. They experience hot days,
warm nights and continuous high
humidity!
Origin: Mindanao, Philippines
Adult Pitcher: Near 24" tall and 8" to 10" round.
Lighting: Needs bright light, but not direct
sun light. If kept in a greenhouse,
it requires 50% shade cloth.
Watering: Water from above and allow the excess
to completely drain. Water daily in
this method. Does not like to be
kept in standing water!
Comments: This species is an easy to grow
specimin but takes nearly ten years
to reach maturity. Merrilliana is one
of the largest species in the genus.
It can hold up to 4 quarts of
digestive juices. It absolutely
requires a very large pot with loose
medium for good drainage. However,
root rot is very common with this
species, especially in adult plants.
Where I got it: From a friend in Florida.
