Nepenthes bicalcarata
|
Pure or Hybrid: Pure
Type: Lowland - Grows below 3000 feet above
sea level. They experience hot days,
warm nights and continuous high
humidity!
Origin: Sarawak, Borneo
Adult Pitcher: Near 6" tall.
Lighting: Needs bright light, but not direct
sun light. If kept in a greenhouse,
it requires 50% shade cloth.
Watering: Water from above and allow the excess
to completely drain. Water daily in
this method. Does not like to be
kept in standing water!
Comments: One of the most amazing of the plants
because of its two "fangs". These
are believed to direct insects to go
directly over the pitcher to obtain
the nectar on them which makes them
fall into the pitcher for digestion.
Its also been suggested that the
fangs help stop small mammals from
stealing insects within the pitcher.
This plant is a scrambler and each
leaf can reach 2 feet long.
Where I got it: Malesiana Tropicals
